MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers signed a bipartisan bill to ensure the state’s criminal code is updated to reflect the increasing use and potential misuse of artificial intelligence.

Senate Bill 33, now 2025 Wisconsin Act 34:

  • Expands the crime of representations depicting nudity;
  • Defines “synthetic intimate representation”;
  • Prohibits posting, publishing, distributing, or exhibiting a synthetic intimate representation of an identifiable person with intent to harass or intimidate them; and
  • Prohibits making a reproduction of a private representation of an individual if they did not consent to the making of the reproduction.

The bill will take effect the day after publication.
