From the 2nd District to the Deer District, city Christmas Tree brings joy to all

Statement of Alderman Mark Chambers, Jr. November 1, 2023

By - Nov 1st, 2023 09:34 am

This morning I joined Mayor Cavalier Johnson, leadership and staff from the Department of Public Works, representatives from the Milwaukee Bucks, and area neighbors for the annual harvesting of the city of Milwaukee Christmas Tree.

This year’s tree was donated by 2nd District resident Denise Blue, who I’ve had the pleasure of knowing for many years, and her nephew. The 38-foot Colorado Blue Spruce was harvested from the northwest side and then escorted by the Milwaukee Police Department to downtown where it will be placed outside the Fiserv Forum in the Deer District. I want to thank Denise and her family for their generosity that will bring joy to many throughout the holiday season.

2023 marks the 110th year of the Christmas tree lighting in Milwaukee, making it the longest running official tree lighting ceremony in the United States other than New York City’s. I would invite all residents to take part in the public tree lighting ceremony later this month on November 17.
