Reappointed Fire and Police Commission member Kathryn A. Hein and new Commission appointee Steven M. DeVougas will take part in a public forum tomorrow (Tuesday, October 22) evening at La Luz del Mundo Family Services, 1570 W. Greenfield Ave.

Alderman José G. Pérez, vice chair of the Common Council’s Community and Economic Development Committee, will moderate the forum, which starts at 5:30 p.m. Mayor Tom Barrett has reappointed Ms. Hein to serve a second term on the Fire and Police Commission, and Mr. DeVougas, a new nominee, was appointed by the mayor in late September to replace Richard Cox.

A confirmation hearing for Mr. DeVougas is scheduled to take place Wednesday (October 23) at the regular meeting of the Council’s Public Safety Committee.

Alderman Pérez said Michael Tobin, executive director of the Fire and Police Commission, will take part in the forum, which will include welcoming remarks from Patricia Ruiz-Cantu, executive director of La Luz del Mundo. “The forum provides an excellent opportunity for members of the public who wish to ask questions and engage in dialogue regarding the commission and public safety issues,” Alderman Pérez said.

“It is especially timely as Mr. DeVougas is expected to be considered for confirmation by the full Common Council next month,” he said.
