Fitzgerald Statement on Indictment of Former President Trump
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Scott Fitzgerald released the following statement in response to the indictment of former President Trump:
“The indictment of former President Trump is just the latest of the weaponization of government against conservatives, said Congressman Scott Fitzgerald. Radical District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who is best known for charging a bodega clerk with murder for defending himself, has largely ignored Congress and abused his office to seek a political prosecution of the former President, rather than focus on the rampant violent crimes in his own backyard. Bragg’s latest political stunt is outrageous and unbecoming of his office.”

One need only imagine Fitzgerald’s response were the accused a Republican to understand the legitimacy of this hyperpartisan bullpucky.
Laws? What are those?
Let’s take Scott Fitzgerald’s lies and misstatements one by one. First, the “weaponization” meme is getting a little boring, especially coming from a Republican who – with his accomplices – happily overlooked Trump’s criminal “weaponization” of every federal agency against those who opposed him. A grand jury voted to indict Trump on multiple charges that Fitzgerald cannot even name because they haven’t been released yet.
Second, District Attorney Bragg is not “best known” for charging a bodega clerk for murder for defending himself. Fitzgerald is either lying or doesn’t know what he is talking about, probably both, in distorting what happened in the case he cites and knows nothing about. Bragg is “best known” as a serious prosecutor with a reputation for integrity, as opposed to Fitzgerald’s hero who is, among other things, “best known” for having sex with a porn star while his wife was giving birth to his son.
Third, Bragg has not “ignored” the fascist (term used carefully and accurately) trio in Congress, led by Jim Jordan. He has informed them in far too polite language that this is none of their business. It is a New York State matter. And, it is not a political prosecution, but a criminal one against a career criminal who has gotten away with a range of crimes for much of his lifetime.
Finally, there is not “rampant violent crime” in New York City. It is the safest large city in the country. It is also one where, something Fitzgerald and his colleagues could never grasp, a city where most people across lines of race, ethnicity and religion live with, respect and get along with one another, unlike any other city on the face of this earth.
Fitzgerald will never be mistaken for an informed and logical ‘thinker’.
Why shouldn’t Bragg ignore Congress? Bragg is a STATE official and Congress has ZERO oversight over STATE government.
