MILWAUKEE, Dec. 5, 2017 – To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Northwestern Mutual Foundation, the company announced today a first-of-its-kind art exhibit open to the public. Through the power of visual arts, Giving Gallery: Community in Process will highlight the collective impact of the Northwestern Mutual Foundation and its nonprofit partners in the greater Milwaukee community and beyond.

For the past 25 years, the Northwestern Mutual Foundation has driven its communities forward by investing in the people who stand up, tune in and engage every day to ensure that everyone has a chance at a brighter future.

“This year, we’re commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Northwestern Mutual Foundation, which has improved the lives of children and families in our hometown of Milwaukee and across the country,” said John Schlifske, chairman and CEO, Northwestern Mutual. “We are bringing 25 years worth of stories to life through art, highlighting our commitment to the communities we serve and celebrating the work we’ve done in partnership with outstanding nonprofits.”

The exhibit—at no cost to the public—will be open from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. during regular business hours beginning in February 2018 and will be hosted in The Northwestern Mutual Tower and Commons for one year. Those who attend the experience will be encouraged to get involved with the organizations that move them personally through donations, volunteer opportunities and more.

The exhibit will consist of 26 pieces of original artwork, completed in a variety of media by 17 artists with Wisconsin ties. Each artist was paired with one or more nonprofits to bring to life the stories of these organizations and the profound impact they have had in collaboration with the Northwestern Mutual Foundation.

Each participating nonprofit also received a $10,000 grant from the Northwestern Mutual Foundation. Since its inception in 1992, the Northwestern Mutual Foundation has given more than $320 million to improve education, revitalize neighborhoods, enhance the quality of life in its hometown of Milwaukee and accelerate the national search for childhood cancer cures. Of that total, more than $87 million has been given to these featured organizations.

“Our 25th anniversary is the perfect opportunity to pause and look back at the investments we’ve made, the work we’ve done and the countless lives that have been impacted,” said Eric Christophersen, president, Northwestern Mutual Foundation. “It’s also the chance to acknowledge the incredible partnerships we’ve fostered in the nonprofit community. We hope the stories of these unsung heroes will inspire those who visit this exhibit to join us in achieving our community’s full potential.”

Patronage of the visual arts also has a longstanding place in Northwestern Mutual’s culture. The Northwestern Mutual Art Program features a variety of contemporary artwork throughout the company’s campuses. Through artwork, the program’s mission hopes to start meaningful conversations, inspire thinking and stimulate curiosity.
