Extension of COP house grant program will bolster communities

Statement from Alderwoman Andrea M. Pratt August 8, 2025

By - Aug 8th, 2025 03:52 pm

Today I had the pleasure of joining the legislation signing ceremony for 2025 Assembly Bill 293/Senate Bill 278, which extends the life of the community-oriented policing (COP) house grant program through July 1, 2027. I want to thank Governor Evers for signing this bill sponsored by Senator Wanggaard in the Senate and Representative John Spiros in the Assembly that had bipartisan support.

COP houses are about creating resource hubs in neighborhoods that offer solutions to neighborhood issues, work to build trust between law enforcement and the community, and provide critical services to uplift residents, while meeting people near where they live.

We have seen this model prove successful in Racine, and earlier this year, a community hub based on the COP house model opened in District 1 in the Garden Homes neighborhood. The feedback from residents thus far has been positive, and with the extension of the statewide grant program, I look forward to more resource hubs like these making their way to Milwaukee and other communities.
