Department of Public Works Statement on Rainbow Crosswalks
With the installation of the Rainbow Crosswalks in 2018, the Department of Public Works (DPW) has been a proud partner of Milwaukee Pride. As part of our agreement, the civic organization would do annual restoration of this important historical tribute to the LGBTQ community. Every year since they have fulfilled that pledge. So we sincerely apologize for the recent disruption to the decorative crosswalks while DPW crews were marking underground utilities for Diggers Hotline. While this procedure is necessary to ensure safety for the community at large, a more thoughtful approach was in order. DPW will refresh any surfaces or colors that were altered from this activity and we remain a proud partner in this civic project.
