Democratic Lawmakers Support Law Enforcement Officers, Denounce Broad Pardons of Violent Criminals
MADISON, Wis. – Today, Senator Dianne Hesselbein and Representative Deb Andraca authored a joint resolution condemning the pardons of individuals involved in the violent attack on law enforcement officers at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Senator Dianne Hesselbein (D-Middleton) issued the following statement:
Representative Deb Andraca (D-Whitefish Bay) issued the following statement:
“President Trump’s pardons to criminals involved in the violent January 6th insurrection flies in the face of the principles we swear an oath to uphold. As elected officials, we denounce these pardons and reaffirm our commitment to the rule of law and to the men and women in law enforcement who keep our communities safe.”
Earlier this year, in response to these pardons and commutations, the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) issued a joint statement that read in part, “Crimes against law enforcement are not just attacks on individuals or public safety—they are attacks on society and undermine the rule of law.”
