County Executive David Crowley Statement on Healthcare Contract
MILWAUKEE – County Executive David Crowley released the following statement regarding the County’s healthcare contract with UnitedHealthcare, Milwaukee County’s health claims administrator and partner.
“I strongly believe in transparency and accountability. When mistakes are made, it’s important to seek out the facts and identify solutions to the problem at hand. We unfortunately find ourselves discussing a contract that expired at the end of 2025. This was an error by an employee in the Department of Human Resources, and as a result, that employee no longer works for Milwaukee County.
“In order to resolve this matter, I respectfully urge the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors to approve the contract with UnitedHealthcare, Milwaukee County’s health claims administrator and partner, without delay. While employees currently have active healthcare coverage, this contract approval is needed for Milwaukee County to control costs and continue to provide healthcare benefits to thousands of employees and their families.
“Looking forward, we need to strengthen our internal system and enhance safeguards for contract management. I’ve directed my administration to ensure compliance, improve processes, and increase oversight on contracting protocols. This will help ensure these situations do not occur again.
“The work of Milwaukee County employees makes a difference in our neighborhoods and in the lives of the people we serve. I will always do what’s best for our changemakers and the community as a whole, which is why we are addressing this seriously. We will resolve this and continue building a stronger, healthier, and safer Milwaukee County for all.”
