Comptroller announces completion of annual financial audits

By - Jul 27th, 2020 04:17 pm

City Comptroller Aycha Sawa would like to announce to the City of Milwaukee residents and to the broader community that the audits of the 2019 financial statements, 2019 grants and 2019 Tax Incremental Districts have been completed as of July 22, 2020.

Our auditors Baker Tilly Virchow Krause LLP have issued an unmodified “clean” audit opinion of all sections of the audit.

The audit process, conducted mostly from March to July of 2020, coincided with the onset of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and therefore required process adjustments due to auditors and city staff working remotely.

We greatly appreciate and were impressed with the auditors’ adaptation to safe practices, while completing a thorough and timely audit process as we all adapt to new workplace practices.

An unmodified “clean” opinion is crucial for the City’s financial health in relation to bond ratings, keeping our status as a low risk client and, most importantly, in preserving trust with our community that our financial statements are produced accurately and not materially misstated.

The City’s full Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for 2019 will be coming soon to our website which can be found at https://city.milwaukee.gov/Comptroller.
