The City of Milwaukee’s Office of the Comptroller has great news to report that increases the City’s visibility of transparent financial reporting. The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to the City of Milwaukee for its annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2021.  The report has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

“This is a tremendous achievement by this office.  I would personally like to thank everyone in our office that has worked tirelessly and put in a lot of thought and effort for making our Annual Comprehensive Financial Report very robust, transparent, and accurate,” said City of Milwaukee Comptroller Aycha Sawa. “This is truly everyone’s accomplishment!  We are so excited to announce this to our community and any interested party who wants a view into our City’s finances.”

    Awesome!

For goodness’ sake, send this information to Rep. Vos, Rep. Born, Sen. Marklein, et al. They think the City of Milwaukee can’t do anything right. Even Marklein might appreciate this recognition from other accountants.
