Community Advocates, Inc. is pleased to announce that Jessica Currie, Ph.D., Executive Director of Missionary Currie for Women and Children (MCWC), and real estate broker Angela Walters have joined its Board of Directors. Both leaders bring significant professional expertise and a deep commitment to Community Advocates’ mission of supporting individuals and families with advocacy and services so they may live with dignity.

“Community Advocates is honored to welcome Dr. Jessica Currie and Angela Walters to our Board of Directors,” said Andi Elliott, CEO of Community Advocates. “Their leadership, lived experience, and community knowledge will strengthen our work as we continue to build a safe, healthy, and resilient community.”

Dr. Currie leads Missionary Currie for Women and Children (MCWC), a nonprofit focused on breaking cycles of hardship and creating sustainable change in underserved communities. Drawing from her lived experience as a teen mother who experienced homelessness and as a survivor of family substance use, Dr. Currie has shaped MCWC’s holistic approach to family support. The organization provides financial literacy education, maternal health resources, job skills training, and family support initiatives, including its signature Community Baby Showers. Dr. Currie has also spearheaded the development of new programs serving families impacted by substance use.

Angela Walters has more than 20 years of experience in the real estate industry. She is a licensed real estate broker with Walters Realty Group at Compass and currently serves as the Executive Vice President for the Wisconsin Realtors Association (WRA). In 2023, she was the Chairwoman of the Board of Directors for the Greater Milwaukee Association of Realtors (GMAR). Recently selected by the City of Milwaukee as a developer for the HomesMKE project, Walters is rehabilitating city-foreclosed homes to expand access to affordable homeownership. Her leadership spans multiple boards and advisory councils, including Havenwoods Neighborhood Partnership, the Milwaukee chapter of the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB), and the Milwaukee County Land Sales Council.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2026, Community Advocates provides rental housing assistance, energy assistance, domestic violence emergency shelter and support, behavioral health services, and advocacy for more than 60,000 individuals and families each year. A full list of Board of Directors and affiliations is available at communityadvocates.net/who-we-are/staff.
