MILWAUKEE – Today, the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors approved File 23-703 containing several appropriation transfers that will support critical projects and programs across the county. This included the creation of a new capital project with the investment of $1.5M of ARPA funding to improve the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, located in District 10. The fund transfer is pursuant to adopted County Board Resolution 22-592. Chairwoman Nicholson made the following statement:

“The King Community Center holds a special place in our hearts and is a beacon in the County’s vision for equity. It serves as a place where residents gather, commune, and celebrate in pursuit of health of the mind and body.” said Chairwoman Nicholson. “We are thrilled to establish this investment and contribute to the center’s revitalization, ensuring that it continues to be a place where our community can come together and thrive.”

The appropriation transfer will enable the completion of the center’s revitalization, including façade enhancements, roof replacement, window and door upgrades, in addition to addressing other deferred maintenance issues.

The King Community Center, located in King Park, 1531 W. Vliet St. Milwaukee, WI 53233, offers fitness, recreation, and a wide variety of programming opportunities. The MLK center is led by Director Dee McCollum.

Director McCollum emceed the July 2023 Park and Recreation presentation for the Board of Supervisors showcasing Milwaukee County’s commitment to green spaces and recreational activities in improving community health and advancing racial equity.
