In our dairy- and carnivore-forward state, dining out as a vegan in Milwaukee can be tough. To help, Café Corazón is hosting a vegan menu tasting and meetup on Thursday, June 12 from 4:30 – 6 p.m. at the restaurant’s Bay View location, 2394 S Kinnickinnic Ave. The event will support a local charity.

“We love this event idea as 15 years ago our first menu had a handful of vegan dishes. We’re also dedicated to giving back to our community,” said Corazón Co-Owner Wendy Mireles. “We’re looking forward to the conversation on the 12thand can’t wait for folks to taste or re-try our vegan dishes, all while supporting a cause dear to our hearts.”

The event will benefit Sauce Milw., a charity feeding the hungry by delivering meals (by bicycle). Founded in 2021 by former Café Corazón employee Gianni Vaccaro, the nonprofit provides the community with homemade, cholesterol-free, plant-based meals.

The cost to attend the vegan menu tasting and meetup is $10 per person, Folks can sign up for the event via this Eventbrite page. To ensure a great conversation, attendance will be capped at the first 40 to RSVP.

“We wanted these meetups to be smaller group events and great dialogues,” said new Café Corazón Vegan Community Ambassador Stephanie Vienonen. “I have eaten meat-free for the last 15 years, the last five as a vegan, and I look forward to hearing from others in the community about their journeys.”

At the June 12 meetup, attendees will receive a complimentary vegan appetizer and everyone’s favorite Corazón vegan menu item: a house margarita*.

“It’s the vegan menu item we sell the most of,” Mireles joked. “But seriously, we take great pride in welcoming everyone – those who eat meat, as well as those who have chosen a vegan lifestyle at Café Corazón. We want to ensure that there is something for every palate on our menu. We hope folks get a sense of that in Bay View on the 12th.”
