Budget Amendment for Expanded Atkinson Park Improvements Advances
MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee County Board’s Finance Committee has unanimously approved a budget amendment sponsored by 2nd Vice Chair Priscilla Coggs-Jones to expand improvements at Atkinson Park. Following a $48,260 fund transfer in September 2024—initially allocated for park lighting—the new capital project will now include designing and constructing an open-air pavilion.
“I’m excited to see Atkinson Park continue its revitalization,” said 2nd Vice Chair Coggs-Jones. “The park has greatly benefited from Milwaukee County Parks‘ efforts, and this new project reinforces our commitment to accessibility, community engagement, and improving the quality of life for residents.”
As part of the Milwaukee Parks Foundation’s “Activating Atkinson” initiative, the pavilion will be accompanied by a new picnic shelter and various community programs. This project is funded by a $100,000 grant from the Powering Milwaukee Forward initiative, a partnership between the Charles Antetokounmpo Family Foundation, the GE HealthCare Foundation, and GE HealthCare.
Originally focused on installing picnic tables, replacing playground pavement, and adding ADA-accessible benches, the expanded project now also includes the pavilion, which will serve as a space for community gatherings.
