MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Brewers today announced the signing of 35 international free agents on the opening day of the 2023-24 international signing period, including 16 from the Dominican Republic, 11 from Venezuela, three from Panamá, two from Nicaragua and one from Costa Rica, Germany and Mexico.

“We are adding 35 players from seven different countries all with the potential to become big leaguers,” said Director of International Player Evaluation Luis Pérez. “This class would not be possible without the great work of our scouts and front office. We look forward to these young prospects joining our player development system and working toward fulfilling their dreams of reaching the majors.”

Included among the 35 signees is switch-hitting Venezuelan shortstop Jorge Quintana, who is ranked as the No. 12 overall prospect in the class by MLB Pipeline and No. 20 by Baseball America. The Brewers also inked Dominican shortstop Jesús Made, who is ranked No. 22 by MLB Pipeline and No. 39 by Baseball America.

Milwaukee signed two additional players from Baseball America’s 2024 top 100 international prospects list in Dominican shortstop Luis Peña (No. 43 overall) and Venezuelan shortstop Joandrew Peña (No. 65 overall).

Also in the class is Dominican right-handed pitcher Christopher Peralta, who is the cousin of Brewers pitcher Freddy Peralta.

“Today we celebrate the accomplishments of our newest class of Brewers,” said Director of International Scouting James Armstrong. “Each of these players have now realized their lifelong dream of becoming a professional baseball player, a path which required years of training and devotion to improving every day. That discipline is one of the vital traits we seek in signing the next generation of talented ballplayers, and we strongly feel each of these individuals embody those qualities.

“We also celebrate the parents, coaches and trainers for their support of these players in their development, as without them, none of this is possible. I would also like to commend our scouting staff on a job well done, putting in years of work canvassing the globe to identify this talented group of players. Their tireless desire is the driving force behind being able to collectively celebrate moments like today.”
