Brewers Community Foundation, CBS 58 and Hunger Task Force Host 13th Annual Drive-thru Food Drive to Feed Families in Need this Thanksgiving
MILWAUKEE – Brewers Community Foundation (BCF), the charitable arm of the Milwaukee Brewers™, in partnership with CBS 58 and Hunger Task Force have for more than a decade hosted an annual food-drive to help feed seniors, families and children during the Thanksgiving holiday. Since the inception of the event, the Milwaukee community has donated nearly 1 million pounds of food and thousands of turkeys to those in need. The 13th annual community effort takes place Friday, November 22 at American Family Field™ from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The first 400 donors will receive a Freddy Peralta soccer jersey and those who contribute three or more turkeys will receive a Brewers Puffy Vest, while supplies last.
The food drive comes at a critical time of year. With rising food, housing and electricity prices, Hunger Task Force serves more than 50,000 people monthly. Donations of healthy, non-perishable foods – particularly healthy breakfast cereal, canned low-sodium vegetables and 100 percent fruit juice – are especially important this time of year as are frozen turkey donations for family holiday dinner tables.
“Our network of food pantries and meal sites has seen a nearly 30 percent increase in children, families and seniors seeking help compared to last year,” says Matt King, CEO of Hunger Task Force. “Feeding people today and ending future hunger takes our whole community and we’re grateful for this longstanding partnership with the Brewers Community Foundation and CBS 58 to collect healthy food to provide more healthy holiday meals for those in need.”
“At CBS 58, we believe in the power of community and the importance of coming together to support those in need. We are proud to join hands with our viewers, Hunger Task Force and the Brewers to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our neighbors,” said Anne Brown, VP and General Manager, CBS 58 and Telemundo Wisconsin.
Hunger Task Force is Milwaukee’s Free & Local food bank and Wisconsin’s anti-hunger leader. The organization’s core values are Dignity, Justice, Equity, Compassion and Stewardship. Hunger Task Force feeds people today by providing healthy and culturally appropriate food to hungry children, families and seniors in the community absolutely free of charge. Hunger Task Force also works to end future hunger by advocating for strong public policies and nutrition programs at the local, state and federal level.
