Brewers Announce 2022 Robin Yount Performance Awards

Jackson Chourio Earns Player of the Year; Carlos Rodríguez Named Pitcher of the Year

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Brewers today announced their 2022 Robin Yount Performance Awards, naming outfielder Jackson Chourio as Minor League Player of the Year and right-hander Carlos Rodríguez as Minor League Pitcher of the Year. The announcement was made by Vice President of Minor League Operations Tom Flanagan.

The Brewers also named outfielder Jace Avina and left-hander Osbriel Mogollon as their 2022 Complex League Player and Pitcher of the Year, awarded to players spending the majority of their season at the organization’s Arizona and Dominican Republic complexes. Chourio, 18, batted .288 with 30 doubles, 5 triples, 20 HR, 75 RBI, 75 runs and 16 stolen bases in 99 games between Low-A Carolina (62g), High-A Wisconsin (31g) and Double-A Biloxi (6g) in 2022.

He was among organizational leaders in slugging percentage (2nd, .538), OPS (3rd, .880), extra-base hits (3rd, 55), doubles (3rd, 30), triples (T3rd, 5), RBI (4th, 75), batting average (5th, .288), home runs (5th, 20), total bases (5th, 215), runs (5th, 75) and hits (6th, 115).

Ranked as the No. 2 overall prospect in the Minor Leagues by Baseball America, Chourio began the 2022 season with Carolina, hitting .324 with 23 doubles, 5 triples, 12 HR, 47 RBI, 51 runs and 10 stolen bases in 62 games with the Mudcats. He was promoted to Wisconsin in July, where he hit .252 with 6 doubles, 8 HR, 24 RBI and 24 runs before playing his final 6 games with Biloxi in September.

Rodríguez, 20, went 6-5 with a 3.01 ERA (107.2ip, 36er) and 129 strikeouts in 26 games/20 starts between Carolina (19g/13gs) and Wisconsin (7gs) in 2022.

Selected in the sixth round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft, Rodríguez ranked among leaders in the Brewers’ system in opponent batting average (2nd, .198), WHIP (2nd, 1.06), ERA (3rd, 3.01) and strikeouts (5th, 129).

Rodríguez began his first professional season with the Mudcats, going 3-4 with a 3.53 ERA (71.1ip, 28er) and 84 strikeouts in 19 appearances/13 starts. He thrived after being promoted to Wisconsin, going 3-1 with a 1.98 ERA (36.1ip, 8er) and 45 strikeouts over 7 starts.

Avina, 19, batted .271 with 12 doubles, 3 triples, 15 HR, 54 RBI and 44 runs in 64 games between ACL Brewers Blue and Carolina in 2022. He hit .294 with 8 doubles, a triple, 10 HR, 29 RBI and 27 runs in 36 games in the Arizona Complex League.

Mogollon, 18, went 2-3 with a 2.74 ERA (46ip, 14er) and 57 strikeouts in 12 appearances/10 starts for DSL Brewers 1 this season. He held opponents to just a .149 batting average (22-for-148) and posted a 1.00 WHIP.
