Athletes for Hope and Brewers Announce Partnership to Bring Champs Program to Wisconsin Schools

Partnership Integrates Brewers Alumni and Front Office Personnel into Nationally Recognized School-Based Program Focused on Mental Health, Leadership and Physical Activity

MILWAUKEE – Athletes for Hope (AFH) and the Milwaukee Brewers today announced a new partnership to bring AFH’s CHAMPS program to schools across Greater Milwaukee and Wisconsin. CHAMPS is a school-based program for students in 2nd through 5th grade that uses the power of sports to support mental health, leadership and physical activity. Starting this October, Wisconsin schools will have access to the full CHAMPS curriculum at no cost, with on-demand videos and student workbooks featuring Brewers alumni and front office personnel.

For many kids, the connection between a trusted role model and a lesson learned can make all the difference. By bringing local athletic voices into the curriculum, CHAMPS meets students where they are: in the classroom, with faces they recognize and stories they can connect to.

Currently active in more than 1,600 schools across all 50 states and Canada and reaching more than 400,000 students each month, CHAMPS was developed by experts in mental and physical health and facilitated by professional, Olympic, Paralympic and college athletes. In Wisconsin, this partnership brings that curriculum to life with a local lens, connecting students to athletes and faces from their own community.

“CHAMPS has grown into one of the most widely used athlete-led programs in the country, and what keeps it working is the ability to put real, relatable athletes in front of kids at a formative moment,” said AFH CEO Jason Belinkie. “Partnering with the Brewers means Wisconsin students aren’t just hearing from athletes. They’re hearing from people who are part of their community, their city, their story. That’s when these lessons really stick.”

“The Brewers have always believed our responsibility to Wisconsin extends well beyond the ballpark,” said Brewers Vice President of Community Relations and Family Liaison Katina Shaw. “CHAMPS addresses real challenges young people are facing around mental health, confidence and leadership, and it does it in a way that’s engaging, athlete-driven and built for the classroom.”

Wisconsin elementary schools can sign up to receive the program for free at https://www.athletesforhope.org/champs-x-brewers/ partnership launches in October.
