Bireley Breaks All-Time Points Record in Win over Detroit Mercy Sunday
Golden Eagles open BIG EAST play Saturday at Butler
The Marquette University women’s lacrosse team (5-3, 0-0 BIG EAST) continued non-conference play with a 24-10 win over Detroit Mercy on Sunday at Valley Fields.
Brynna Nixon earned her fourth win of the season and 25th win of her career, passing Jules Horning for the most wins in program history.
Hanna Bodner had a career-high five goals while Tess Osburn (tied career-high) and Campbell Brown (career-high) had four goals each.
Lorelai VanGuilder had a career-high nine draw controls, helping Marquette to 29 total to set a new program record for draw controls in a game.
Detroit Mercy (3-5, 0-0 MAC) was led by Libby Cuckler, who had two goals and one assist.
NOTABLES:
- Meg Bireley passed Shea Garcia (2019-23) for most points in program history with 222 for her career.
- Bireley’s nine points today tied her career-high.
- Bireley also tied the program record for all-time goals with 175 for her career with Grace Gabriel (2016-19).
- Marquette’s 29 draw controls today set a new program record for draw controls in a single game.
- Most goals scored for Marquette since winning 21-4 at Xavier on April 20, 2024.
- Adrianna Commodari had a career-high three points with two goals and one assist.
- Hanna Bodner and Taylor Kotschevar both had a career-high six draw controls.
- Lauren Grady had her second hat trick of the season.
