Assembly Candidate Joel Jacobsen calls for change after opponent Robin Vos’ earns the top spot on the “Conservation Dishonor Roll”
A top priority for Wisconsin should always be its precious natural resources. Our communities deserve safe drinking water, healthy food, and good air to breathe. Lakes, streams, and waterways should be safe for fishing and swimming.
The preeminent conservation lobby group watching our elected officials, Wisconsin Conservation Voters, has inducted Speaker Robin Vos into its “Conservation Dishonor Roll” – the only lawmaker to earn that distinction this year.
“When we looked at every bad bill or any bad situation that came up over the past legislative session, we kept coming back to Speaker Vos being the root cause of it,” said Jennifer Giegerich, Government Affairs Director for the environmental lobby group.
When Wisconsinites were alarmed about failing wells, polluted lakes, and streams, Vos gave the pretense of action and formed a Taskforce on Water Quality. He told Wisconsinites that he would stop the damage and find solutions to reverse the causes of pollution.
The commission held 17 hearings all over the state with hopeful individuals taking the time to help improve practices in the state. The task force drafted 13 bills from the hearings, but according to the Wisconsin Conservation Voters, they lacked any real substance.
“Almost half of them would have had almost no impact on water quality. And then three of those bills would have actually set us back for protecting water quality in the state of Wisconsin,” states Ms Giegerich. “Not a single clean water bill addressing root causes of water pollution passed this session. And there was not even a single public hearing addressing climate change, one of the top issues addressing our planet.”
Speaker Vos clearly isn’t interested in finding solutions for our state’s most pressing issues.
As your candidate for the 63rd Assembly District, I find this more than disappointing, it is unacceptable. It’s time for this career politician who doesn’t work for you to go. You can count on me to take Wisconsin conservation seriously and join Rep. Greta Neubauer to begin the real protection of our wells, waterways, and environment for generations to come.
