Apartment fire devastates 8th District families
Statement of Alderwoman JoCasta Zamarripa January 29, 2021
Early Thursday, an apartment fire devastated many families on the near south side. Nathaniel Beal lost his life as a result of the fire, and more than 80 others were displaced from their homes. My heart goes out to the friends and family of Mr. Beal, and to all the others who were impacted by this tragedy.
The American Red Cross of Wisconsin has been instrumental in providing support in the form of shelter for those with no place else to go, food and other wrap around services. I couldn’t be more grateful for all they are doing for these families, and should you want to support the Red Cross you can do so here. You can specify if you would like for Red Cross to use your donation to provide programs and services in your community by clicking “Your Local Red Cross” on the donation link.
I also want to thank the Milwaukee Fire Department and Milwaukee Police Department, as first responders helped rescue dozens of residents. Without their effort this event could have resulted in much greater loss.
