Alderwoman Coggs seeks voter experience input in online survey; wants Council review of Election Commission practices

The survey – posted on the Alderwoman’s web page (www.milwaukee.gov/district6) – is brief, and the information provided will be retained in a spreadsheet file so that it can be analyzed closely, said Alderwoman Coggs. “My goal is to make voting as efficient and as easy as possible for everyone in Milwaukee, and the information provided by the survey participants will assist me as I work to improve our voting and voter registration systems and practices,” she said.

Community groups including the Unity Caucus, the WI League of Young Voters, and the Milwaukee Branch of the NAACP will also be conducting printed and video versions of the voting experience survey.

The Alderwoman has introduced legislation – Common Council file #120293 – in a move to solicit information from the Election Commission concerning issues in the spring recall elections and plans to address challenges in preparation for the August 14, 2012, statewide primary election and the November 6, 2012, general (Presidential) election. The legislation is co-sponsored by Alderman Ashanti Hamilton, Alderman Willie C. Wade, Alderman Willie L. Hines, Jr., and Alderman Joe Davis, Sr.

A hearing on that legislation will be held during the June 25 meeting of the Council’s Judiciary and Legislation Committee. That meeting will take place at 1:30 p.m. in room 301-B at City Hall, 200 E. Wells St.
