Alders Burgelis and Zamarripa Urge Residents to Call 9-1-1 if Gunfire is Heard

Early morning shots fired incident went unreported by residents

By - Aug 7th, 2025 01:07 pm

Alderman Peter Burgelis and Alderperson JoCasta Zamarripa are urging residents to report any suspected gunfire to police following an early morning incident today in the 11th Aldermanic District. No 9-1-1 calls were received from residents in the area.

Milwaukee Police are now actively investigating the incident.

“Gunfire should never be ignored or brushed off,” said Alderman Burgelis. “We’re asking neighbors, if you hear something that sounds like a gunshot, don’t wait, call it in. Even if you’re unsure, your call matters.”

“Silence makes it harder for police to investigate and keep our communities safe,” added Alderperson Zamarripa. “Being proactive and reporting what you hear can make all the difference. Public safety is a shared responsibility.”

Residents are urged to immediately call 9-1-1 if they hear suspected gunshots. You don’t need to witness the source or see a suspect. Simply providing the location, time, or number of shots can help police respond quickly and effectively. Please do not call the district station; it is best to call 9-1-1 or non-emergency at 414-933-4433 and stay on the line to speak with an operator.
