As more than half of the Sunday crowd stood up and cheered for Mark Buerhle after he hit his first home run since high school, I saw the cliche'd writing on the wall: Milwaukee is destined to become a defacto territory of Chicago. It's really not that bad, Ken. Yes, it's going to take some adjustment, but why fight that which we cannot control.

We continue our series of great activities to enjoy in Milwaukee's parks this summer with events for July: Bastille Days, the return of the Air and Water Show, the Great Circus Parade, the US Bank PGA Tour, and of course city-wide Fourth of July festivities.

Sure, June is well on its way, and with the advent of the first major festivals (PrideFest this past weekend, Polish Fest next weekend) and street parties (Locust Street Festival last weekend, Summer Soulstice on North Avenue this weekend), summer is officially here. Here's our slightly belated guide to everything you can do this month, all over Milwaukee, mostly for cheap or for free, in our beautiful and robust parks system, from glow-in-the-dark golf to beach volleyball to tranquil garden strolls.

I want sloppy joes served at the wake. I'll allow a hymn at the service, but then I want Carl Stalling scores played. You can't prevent tears if people loved you (and I hope someone does), but play the music from a Tex Avery cartoon and force-feed them one of my mother's famous garlic dill pickles and the emotion will change.

Standing just a few games past the one-third mark of the season, weeks like the past one that will begin to frustrate fans exponentially more as the calendar turns toward September. No matter how common they are during the season, they're the equivalent of abandoned swimming pools for mosquitos, breeding nothing but rampant speculation and trade rumors.

Jun 4th, 2009 by Erin PetersenThe brave, the proud, & Cyndi Lauper: Pride Fest
Pride Fest is not about exclusivity, and I hope we can all get together for a beer June 12 – 14. I promise you don’t have to wear rainbows (and in fact, I prefer that you don’t). Plus, I don’t even think any of the headliners are gay. Although Cyndi Lauper has been known to drape herself in a Pride flag. And Etta James may or may not have had affairs with women. Oh and then there’s Brandy, which sounds like something only a retired gay man would drink.

Certain rivals have been whining an awfully lot lately about the Brewer's winning ways. This week's letter to Ken Macha congratulates him on his managerial acumen in getting under other team's skins and for helping fans save money when getting girl drink drunk.
