Constructed for Henry Hummel in 1889. Designed by Charles Kirchhoff, Jr. A 1906 addition by Kirchhoff & Rose. A 1927 addition along W. Center St. was demolished in 2013.

Acquired by William J. Uihlein in 1906 and held by a member of the Uihlein family until 1972. Acquired by the City of Milwaukee via property tax foreclosure in 2010.
