Sherman Park Gallery Night Showcases Community Voices and Stories
MILWAUKEE – On Thursday, September 3, 2026, from 5:00-7:00 PM, The Sherman Park Community Association, Inc. (SPCA), in conjunction with the Milwaukee Vision Project, will kick off its edition of A Gallery of Sherman Park Voices, Building a Vision of Milwaukee at the Sherman Phoenix Marketplace, located at 3536 W. Fond du Lac Avenue, Milwaukee, WI 53216.
The kickoff event is a free, drop-in gallery night featuring portraits, audio recordings, and interactive stations built entirely from conversations with Sherman Park residents. Executive Director of SPCA, Mabel Lamb, welcomes the community to come out and express how they feel about living in Sherman Park. “It gives us a chance to look at ourselves objectively and figure out – as a group – how to move forward and improve our quality of life here.”
The Milwaukee Vision Project (MVP), funded by the Greater Milwaukee Foundation, is a collaborative, multi-media initiative that aims to create a shared vision for the city of Milwaukee. Built from the stories, insights, and ideas of individual Milwaukeeans, MVP will create a layered, emergent narrative that guides how we view and shape the city from the past, the present, and into the future. MVP is equal parts: portrait series, creative digital placemaking, and deep research whose ultimate objective is to understand what the people of Milwaukee see, believe, want, need, and can imagine for their city.
This summer, the MVP Team focused on the Sherman Park neighborhood, a historic district with a distinct perspective, where the community has a unique opportunity to voice how they feel, explore data about the neighborhood, and add their own viewpoints. On display will be the diversity and the intersection of race, geography, gender, age, industry, and lived experience of Sherman Park residents through storytelling.
This is a free, family-friendly event, where refreshments will be served. This is an opportunity to gather with neighbors, friends, and community leaders to listen to neighborhood storytellers, share ideas, catch up on community news, and have fun.
