With MAGA Leaders in Washington Threatening to Further Restrict Abortion, Reminder That Tom Tiffany Has Been an Outspoken Opponent of Abortion Rights

MADISON, Wis. — Comments made by acting Attorney General Todd Blanche where he pledged to make Dobbs permanent even in states that have laws protecting it are a reminder that in Wisconsin, abortion access is once again on the ballot with extreme anti-choice Congressman Tom Tiffany running for governor. In Congress, Tiffany advanced a national abortion ban that American Journal News said “could make getting an abortion legally tantamount to committing murder” and could eliminate access to safe abortion nationwide and threaten fertility treatments like IVF. The ban provides no exceptions for rape, incest or life of the mother. In 2023, Tiffany also cosponsored the Heartbeat Protection Act, federal legislation which would have outlawed abortion before most women know they’re pregnant.

“Congressman Tom Tiffany is an anti-abortion extremist who supported banning abortions before most women know they’re pregnant,” said Emily Stuckey, spokesperson for the Democratic Party of Wisconsin. “There’s no doubt that if Blanche rolls back abortion access nationwide, Tiffany would take the opportunity as governor to take aim at Wisconsin women’s most personal freedoms.”

Read below for more on Congressman Tiffany’s extreme record on abortion:

  • Tom Tiffany voted against Tammy Baldwin’s Women’s Health Protection Act, and the Ensuring Access to Abortion Act, which would restore Roe v. Wade as law and protect women who must travel between states to receive abortions.
  • Tom Tiffany voted against the Right to Contraception Act, a bipartisan bill to protect contraception access for all Americans.
