WISN 12 Names Lakyra Banks as Weekend Morning Anchor
Gifted journalist joins WISN 12’s weekend morning newscasts in July
MILWAUKEE, WI – WISN 12 is excited to announce that Lakyra Banks is the new weekend morning news anchor of ‘WISN 12 News This Morning,’ effective July 25, 2026. Banks will anchor the newscast on Saturdays and Sundays from 5:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. In addition to the weekend anchor duties, Banks will provide reports on WISN 12 News throughout the week.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Lakyra to the WISN 12 family,” says Shawn Oswald, president and general manager of WISN 12. “She brings so much to our team – captivating storytelling, in-depth reporting, tireless work ethic, and an emphasis on community connections – traits that truly resonate with our Wisconsin viewers.”
Prior to this new position at WISN 12, Banks most recently served as the weekday 4:00 p.m. anchor and nightside reporter at KHBS 40/29, the Hearst television station serving northwest Arkansas and the Arkansas River Valley. During her time at the station, she also served as weekend morning anchor and weekday reporter, in addition to roles as a reporter, multi-media journalist, newscast producer, and anchor. Banks began her time at KHBS as an Emma Bowen Fellow. She graduated from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville with a degree in journalism, where she also served as vice president of the university’s National Association of Black Journalists.
“I’m thrilled to join WISN 12 and continue my career with Hearst Television,” states Banks. “Over the past several years, I’ve had the opportunity to tell meaningful stories, connect with communities, and grow as a journalist, and I’m excited to bring that experience to Milwaukee.”
Banks replaces Duke Carter as the weekend morning news anchor. Carter transitioned to a new anchor role at WDSU in New Orleans – WISN 12’s sister station, which is part of Hearst Television – to be closer to his family.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to earn the trust of the Milwaukee community, whether that’s joining viewers in their homes on weekend mornings from behind the anchor desk or meeting them in the field during the week,” adds Banks. “I’m excited to help viewers start their day and can’t wait to meet people across southeastern Wisconsin, tell their stories, and become a part of the Milwaukee community.”
