Kalan Haywood Announces Reelection Campaign

Assistant Minority Leader commits to continuing the fight for affordability, justice, and opportunity for all Wisconsinites

MILWAUKEE, WI — State Representative Kalan Haywood announced today that he is running for reelection to Wisconsin’s 16th Assembly District, pledging to continue his work to expand economic opportunity, protect affordable housing, and build a more just community for every family in the 16th Assembly District and around the state of Wisconsin.

“The time to make change is now, and there is still so much work to do,” said Rep. Haywood. “I got into this work because I believed Milwaukee deserved a leader who would show up every day and fight for the people who are too often left behind. That is exactly what I have done and intend to keep doing.”

“Democrats are within reach of taking back the Assembly majority, and every race matters,” continued Rep. Haywood. “I am running to win another term fighting for my district, but I’m also going to do everything I can to elect Democrats in districts across Wisconsin so that together we can push forward our shared ideas.”

Now in his fourth term, Rep. Haywood serves as Assembly Assistant Minority Leader and Ranking Member on the Committee on Housing and Real Estate and the Committee on Transportation. He has spent his tenure delivering real results for Milwaukee, including helping to secure a landmark shared revenue deal that provided property tax relief and returned more tax dollars to the City and County of Milwaukee for the first time in over a decade; and helping protect hundreds of union jobs by securing the Brewers in Milwaukee through 2050.

Rep. Haywood is focusing his reelection campaign on the issues his constituents face every day: making Wisconsin more affordable, capping prescription drug costs, expanding access to homeownership and protecting renters; reforming the criminal justice system to treat people with dignity; defending voting rights for every Wisconsinite; investing in our schools and early childhood education; and ensuring workers and families can get ahead.

Rep. Haywood was first elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly at 19 years old and has represented the 16th District since 2019. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Wisconsin Center District and the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority.

The Democratic Primary will be on August 11, 2026 and the General Election will be November 3, 2026. For more about Rep. Kalan Haywood and his campaign, visit www.haywoodforwi.com.
