Educators use First Stage’s CRASH to spark important conversation about bullying
First Stage’s Theater In Education department to facilitate over 75 in-classroom workshops in conjunction with CRASH to teach anti-bullying, leadership and character education this spring.
Milwaukee, WI – First Stage’s CRASH, on stage from March 28 – April 13, 2014 at the Todd Wehr Theater, is a popular choice for upper elementary and middle school teachers this spring. This insightful play by Y York, based on the popular young adult novel of the same name by Jerry Spinelli, offers teachers an opportunity to start an important dialogue about bullying with students.
Along with the play, First Stage’s Theater in Education department offers pre and post-show workshops that explore the themes in CRASH including inspiring others through example, standing up for what is right, friendship, family relationships and more. “The themes in the play resonate with students,” said First Stage Education Director Julia Magnasco. “Students are challenged to step into the character’s shoes – whether the bully or the victim of bullying and examine difficult choices from all sides.”
Public audiences of CRASH will have the opportunity to experience First Stage’s anti-bullying workshop on Sunday, April 13 immediately after the 3:30 p.m. performance. This opportunity is free with tickets to the performance.
First Stage Education Director Julia Magnasco is available for interviews upon request.
