Garden District to Celebrate Completion of Inclusive Garden Project Today
During a special ceremony today, Wednesday, December 3 at 3:45 p.m., Alderman Scott Spiker, the Garden District Neighborhood Association Board, project partners, and volunteers will celebrate the completion of the Garden District’s Inclusive Gardening Project. The celebration will take place at 6th and Norwich (one block south of Howard).
The Inclusive Gardening Project is a partnership with the Neighborhood Improvement Development Corporation, the City of Milwaukee, local business Uttke Heating & Cooling, volunteers, and community donors to increase accessibility in the area’s community garden space for those with mobility needs. Specifically, gardeners with mobility needs will be able to apply to rent one of five new raised garden beds for the next gardening season (spring 2026). The community garden space also features accessible parking, a nearby stop on MCTS route 80, a reinforced pathway, and close access to watering. Gardeners with mobility needs will be in the heart of the community garden, where they can enjoy growing their own produce while getting to know neighbors in the Garden District.“I want to thank the many partners involved in this project for their commitment to increasing accessibility in our shared community spaces. In particular, I would like to commend Jessica Seawright. Without her effort, this project wouldn’t have become a vision, let alone a reality,” said Alderman Spiker. “I can’t wait to see this enhanced space in action next spring.”
