The Marquette University men’s basketball team (2-1, 0-0 BIG EAST) dropped a 100-77 decision versus Indiana (2-0, 0-0 Big Ten) at the Waterkeeper Alliance Invitational at the United Center in Chicago on Sunday afternoon.

Senior guard Chase Ross finished with 19 points and forward Ben Gold chipped in 10 points and eight rebounds.

Marquette concluded the game 37.3 percent from the floor overall and was able to close the 18-point halftime deficit to 65-55 with 13:44 left on a 3-pointer by Zaide Lowery, but the Hoosiers responded with a 13-2 run to regain momentum.

The Golden Eagles scored eight of their first 10 points of the game from the free throw line and had 18 attempts from the charity stripe in the opening 20 minutes.  A quick 6-0 spurt by Marquette gave the team a 24-22 advantage with just over 10 minutes remaining, but the Hoosiers would pull away as the half progressed and led 56-38 at the intermission.

The two teams combined to shoot 34 free throws in the first half, courtesy of 25 foul calls.
