MILWAUKEE (Aug. 6, 2025) – The Bucks Health and Wellness program, which is celebrating its one-year anniversary, has launched a new clinic in Schlitz Park where patients receive free and personalized obesity management treatment, along with customized fitness and nutrition regimens. Designed to prevent and treat obesity within underserved populations of Milwaukee, the holistic medical program delivers top-quality concierge care that walks patients through their weight loss journey. The innovative initiative was formed by Bucks Governor Wes Edens, Elizabeth Sharp, M.D., and the Milwaukee Bucks Foundation.

The new 4,000-square-foot clinic, which was unveiled at a press conference this morning with Dr. Sharp, Bucks Health and Wellness Medical Director; Peter Feigin, Bucks and Fiserv Forum President; and Cavalier Johnson, Milwaukee Mayor, features five private patient rooms, two labs, and dedicated spaces for physician and dietitian consultations. With a modern and welcoming design that reduces stigma and creates a positive and comfortable atmosphere, the Bucks Health and Wellness clinic is dedicated to addressing the obesity epidemic with a patient-first community-centered approach. Patients are evaluated with the state-of-the-art InBody 570 Body Composition Analyzer to have their fat mass, muscle mass and body water measured in just 45 seconds simply by standing on the device and holding the hand electrodes, making testing fast, easy and non-invasive. Participants also have access to a mobile app that offers personalized meal plans and exercise programs, as well as yoga and meditation videos.

“Bucks Health and Wellness provides an essential solution for treating and managing obesity by focusing on maintaining optimal body composition and skeletal muscle mass,” said Dr. Sharp. “In underserved neighborhoods of Milwaukee, obesity affects approximately 52 percent of residents, which is more than double the prevalence in more affluent nearby communities. We launched this innovative and personalized program to deliver holistic, compassionate obesity care, and to date we’ve helped more than 850 patients achieve lasting weight loss, along with improved blood pressure, A1C and cholesterol. With our welcoming state-of-the-art clinic, we will continue to make weight management and wellness accessible to Milwaukee’s marginalized communities.”

“There’s a lot to applaud here with the Bucks Health and Wellness program. Positive results are improving the lives of individuals who participate in the program, and, as a community, Milwaukee is getting healthier overall,” Mayor Johnson said. “The Milwaukee Bucks have demonstrated the organization is far more than an accomplished professional basketball team; the Bucks are a true partner. I congratulate everyone behind this effort because their vision and their hard work are paying off.”

Bucks Health and Wellness has served more than 850 patients across 43 zip codes to date, addressing the wellness metrics of obesity, blood pressure, hemoglobin A1C and cholesterol. On average, patients have lost 22.4 pounds of overall weight in their first six months in the program and 37.8 pounds in one year, while cutting average muscle mass lost in half when taking GLP-1 medications. Patients with high blood pressure saw an average decrease of 10.63 mmHg in systolic blood pressure in six months and a 6.18 mmHg decrease in diastolic blood pressure. Of those who entered the program with prediabetes, 96 percent have reduced their A1C levels after six months, and 81 percent of patients with high cholesterol saw a reduction in their cholesterol levels after six months.

“Wes and Elizabeth’s significant investment in Bucks Health and Wellness reflects their commitment to provide accessible, high-quality care to underserved communities in Milwaukee,” Feigin said. “We’re extremely proud of the program’s results and the impact it will make for years to come.”

To qualify for the program, patients must live in an underserved community of Milwaukee and have a BMI of 30 or higher. Those interested in enrolling can visit www.buckshealthandwellness.com.
