Legislators Express Concern Over Pick ’n Save Grocery and Pharmacy Closure in Milwaukee
Milwaukee, WI — Today, several Milwaukee-area state legislators- State Senator LaTonya Johnson as well as State Representatives Margaret Arney, Kalan Haywood, and Supreme Moore Omokunde– voiced deep concern following an announcement that the Pick ‘n Save grocery store and pharmacy located at 2355 N 35th St in Milwaukee will soon be closing.
“Closing an essential shopping center threatens to deepen existing food deserts, forcing residents- especially seniors and families who can’t drive- into hardship,” said State Rep. Margaret Arney. “Many may not have anywhere else to go. Losing their local grocery store as well as their pharmacy puts them in an impossible situation.”
“This closure is more than just the loss of a store- it’s the loss of access, stability, and dignity for families who already face enough barriers,” said Rep. Kalan Haywood. “We can’t allow corporate decisions to gut our neighborhoods. I’m committed to fighting for long-term solutions that put people over profits and ensure every Milwaukee resident has access to fresh food and critical care.”
The legislators said that they will try to engage directly with Kroger leadership to seek a smooth transition and community solutions for impacted residents.
“We stand ready to work hand‑in‑hand with Kroger, Alderman Russell Stamper, and other community stakeholders,” said Senator Johnson. “We want to ensure that these changes are as seamless as possible and that access to essential food and medicine remains a possibility in the daily life of all Milwaukee residents.”
