Milwaukee County Board to Launch English and Spanish Captioning, Translation Services at December 19 Meeting
MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors is launching closed captioning and translation services in English and Spanish at their Thursday, December 19, 2024, meeting. This historic meeting will convene in Courthouse Room 200 at noon and will also stream online via the County Legislative Information Center (CLIC).
This initiative follows the adoption of a 2022 budget amendment authored by Chairwoman Marcelia Nicholson with Supervisor Juan Miguel Martinez to strengthen public access to all County meetings. Chairwoman Nicholson, the first Black woman and Latina elected as Chairwoman of the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors, made the following statement:
“The Board continues to take action to meet people where they are and live up to the County’s vision for equity. This inclusive initiative removes barriers by providing a tool that encourages citizen engagement with their local government, creating a more representative democracy.”
The County’s Information Management Services Division (IMSD) is implementing this technology enhancement, also used by the City of Milwaukee.
Users can select English or Spanish closed captions for public meetings via CLIC. Two links to the same meeting will be available: one for English captions and another for Spanish subtitles labeled “Subtítulos en español.” To activate captions:
- Click “In Progress” under the Video column once the meeting begins.
- Use the CC button on the video player to toggle captions on or off.
