Hesselbein Heralds Ruling in Favor of Workers’ Rights

MADISON – State Senator Dianne Hesselbein (D-Middleton) today applauded a decision in the effort to restore the right to collectively bargain for workers who have not had that right for 13 years.  Following a clear finding this summer that legislation (“Act 10”) stripping that right from most public employees was unconstitutional, Circuit Court Judge Jacob Frost today effectively ordered those rights restored.

“This is a crucial step to recognize and restore the rights of hard-working public employees doing the people’s work in every corner of Wisconsin,” Hesselbein said.  “There are likely further hurdles ahead and I applaud the resolve of those who have kept up the effort to restore the right to collectively bargain in the state.”

A strong supporter of workers’ rights since her election the year following the passage of Act 10, Hesselbein pledged her continued support for the teachers, public works employees, and many other state, school and local government workers who saw their rights acknowledged and validated by today’s ruling.
