WHEDA receives extra funds to provide housing aid to Wisconsin veterans
MADISON, Wis. –Last week, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Richard Monocchio of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) presented WHEDA CEO Elmer Moore and Compliance Director Tonya Buchner with a check for more than $60,000 to expand housing assistance for veterans.
Housing affordability is the greatest housing problem among veterans. Roughly 22.5 percent of Wisconsin’s 48,904 veterans pay too much for housing. WHEDA currently assists 165 veterans as part of the HUD-Veteran Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) voucher program.
WHEDA is honored to have the opportunity to distribute these resources to our veteran community. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development funds will help us provide much-needed housing assistance to those who have sacrificed so much for our country and our livelihoods. Unfortunately, this community is one of the most vulnerable in our state. We believe everyone should have a safe, stable place to call home.
If you are or know a homeless veteran or one who is at risk of homelessness, please get in touch with one of our voucher agents.
