Statement on verdict in Joel Acevedo homicide trial

To say we are disappointed by the acquittal on Friday (November 10) of former Police Officer Michael Mattioli is an understatement.
Joel Acevedo would be alive today had he not been placed in a chokehold. That sad reality is what it is, and for us it is clear that justice was not served.
Our hearts go out to the Acevedo family, who must now turn to a civil court for justice in the case.

The ruling on the Acevedo homicide trail was another example of the police getting away with murder. What is wrong with a jury that doesn’t see through the fake remorse of Mattioli and the continuing cover-up by officers who clearly saw the illegal and deadly behavior? Mattioli should be going to prison for the rest of his life but instead he walks the streets with other corrupt cops who continue to jeopardize our citizens. There is never a reason for a chokehold nor should Mattioli have held this poor man down for the length of time he did. Acevedo tried to help himself and he was killed for what?! Going through Mattioli’s pockets–pants that he had on?! Kids do that to their parents all the time. Fortunately people like Mattioli are not one of their family members. Shame on these jurors who let this criminal behavior go on and blindly support police.
