Brewers Name Minor League Players and Pitchers of the Month for June

Clarke and Rodríguez Named Players of the Month; Gasser and Rivero Selected as Pitchers of the Month

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Brewers have named first baseman/catcher Wes Clarke and outfielder Yophery Rodríguez as Minor League Players of the Month and left-handed pitcher Robert Gasser and right-handed pitcher Jesús Rivero as Minor League Pitchers of the Month for June.

Clarke, 23, carried a .404 on-base percentage and a .453 slugging percentage in 21 games for Double-A Biloxi in June, drawing 21 walks in 89 plate appearances. He led the organization in RBI (19) for the month, tied for the lead in walks (21) and ranked second in home runs (5).

Selected in the 10th round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft, Clarke ranked among Southern League leaders in June in home runs (T7th, 5), RBI (T7th, 19) and on-base percentage (9th, .404).

Clarke drove in multiple runs in 6 games in June, including recording a season-high 4 RBI on June 2 vs. Pensacola. He made starts at first base (12g), designated hitter (5g) and catcher (4g) in June.

Rodriguez, 17, made his professional debut with DSL Brewers 1 in June, batting .286 (18-for-63) with 4 doubles, a triple, 2 HR, 15 RBI, 17 runs and 7 stolen bases in 19 games. He posted a .465 on-base percentage with 21 walks to just 14 strikeouts in 86 plate appearances.

Signed as a non-drafted free agent in January, Rodriguez carried a .941 OPS for the month.

Gasser, 24, went 2-0 with a 2.84 ERA (25.1ip, 8er) in 4 starts for Triple-A Nashville in June. He recorded 27 strikeouts to just 4 walks. Opponents batted just .206 (20-for-97) off Gasser in June, while he posted a 0.95 WHIP.

Gasser ranked among International League leaders for June in opponent batting average (2nd, .206), WHIP (2nd, 0.95), ERA (4th, 2.84) and strikeouts (T6th, 27). He threw his first career complete game (7ip) on June 7 at Jacksonville.

Rivero, 20, went 2-0 with a 3.18 ERA (11.1ip, 4er) in 3 relief appearances for the ACL Brewers in June before being promoted to Class-A Carolina on June 27. He made his debut for the Mudcats on June 29, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts over 2.0 innings.

Signed as a non-drafted free agent in June of 2021, Rivero worked no fewer than 3.0 innings with at least 6 strikeouts in each of his appearances with the ACL Brewers. He finished his time in the Arizona Complex League with 1 walk, 19 strikeouts and a 0.97 WHIP.
