Mary Ellen Stanek Award for Diversity in Corporate Governance Announces 2022 Award Recipients
Cecelia Gore, of the Brewers Community Foundation, and Froedtert Health are chosen honorees
MILWAUKEE (Feb. 14, 2022) – The Greater Milwaukee Committee (GMC) in conjunction with Milwaukee Women inc (MWi), awarded the 10th annual Mary Ellen Stanek Award for Diversity in Corporate Governance to Cecelia Gore, executive director of the Brewers Community Foundation, and Froedtert Health on February 14th at the GMC’s Annual Meeting. The Mary Ellen Stanek Award is given to an individual or entity demonstrating a commitment to promoting equity and inclusion in their corporate structure resulting in increased gender and racial diversity in leadership and on corporate boards in the Milwaukee Region.
Past winners include the award’s namesake Mary Ellen Stanek, Managing Director of Baird; Ellen Gilligan, president and CEO of the Greater Milwaukee Foundation; Linda Gorens-Levey, partner at General Capital Group; Gale Klappa, Executive Chairman of WEC Energy Group; John Daniels, Jr., Chairman Emeritus of Quarles & Brady; and Gina Peter, Executive Vice President of Wells Fargo. Previous corporate winners include Manpower Group, Northwestern Mutual, Associated Bank, and Aurora Healthcare.
Cecelia Gore was recognized for her lifetime commitment to equity and community, including her recent co-chairing of the Greater Milwaukee Committee Racial Equity taskforce. She along with co-chair Wayne Morgan have expertly ed a process of reflection and accountability leading the GMC to a new trajectory for advancing equity within the organization, its membership, and the community.
Froedtert Health was recognized its creation of a Diversity and Inclusion Dashboard, which is hosted on its website. Women comprise 41% of the organization’s board of directors, with people of color comprising 23.5%. On the executive leadership team, women comprise 44.4% with people of color comprising 9.3%.
Froedtert Health has also been recognized as being among the top three workplaces in the U.S. by the Association of ERGs and Councils for incorporating Equity, Diversity and Inclusion into the fabric of its culture. Additionally, the organization has received the Society for Human Resource Management’s Workplace Diversity Advocate Award and MKE’s Drive of Diversity Award.
