WisDems Respond To Ron Johnson’s Continued Refusal to Explain Recent Tax Scandal
Madison, Wis. — Today, in response to Ron Johnson’s continued refusal to disclose why he paid virtually nothing in state income taxes in 2017, despite filing records that show he likely made a minimum of nearly half a million dollars, Democratic Party of Wisconsin Senate Communications Advisor Philip Shulman released the following statement:
“Senator Ron Johnson’s latest refusal to explain why he paid less in state taxes than many middle class Wisconsin families is unacceptable. The fact is Johnson’s latest tax scandal appears to be another example of him rigging the system and enriching himself and his biggest political donors. Wisconsinites deserve to know what he’s hiding.”

WisDems Leaders Statement on SCOTUS Gutting VRA
Apr 29th, 2026 by Democratic Party of Wisconsin"Every election was already an emergency—SCOTUS just made them five-alarm fires. Wisconsin must elect a Democratic Governor and Attorney General alongside majorities in the State Senate and Assembly to safeguard our democracy, or we will hand the GOP the pen to gerrymander as they have before and draw themselves an 8-0 congressional delegation."

It’s a wonder that anyone continues to be honest about paying taxes anymore when you hear about people like Ron Johnson and Donald Trump who get away with paying relatively nothing. I guess Leona Helmsley was right when she said “only the little people pay taxes.”
