MID COAST Vol 3

There’s plenty to do in Milwaukee this week while practicing safe social distancing. Get your dose of live music and community support with MID COAST, a virtual concert series featuring Negative Positive and other Milwaukee acts. Drop by the Cudahy Family Library for a family-friendly crafts fair and support local small businesses, or tune into a live discussion with a local artist hosted by Saint Kate.

Ongoing: Winter Chalets at South Shore Park

The winter chalets at South Shore Terrace in South Shore Park (2900 S. Shore Dr.) are still open for reservation. The chalets can fit up to six people and there is nearby fire for warming up. Up to six people from the same household or two people from different households can share a chalet for $75, which includes a $50 food and beverage credit and a 90 minute time slot. The Florentine Opera is celebrating music inspired by Shakespeare with performances of classics from Britten, Gounod, Verdi and more. The hour-and-a-half long program will take place in a secret room in a Milwaukee landmark home with ties to England and bootlegging. Historian John Eastberg will make an appearance to provide some historical background. The performance is digital only and can be purchased for $25 by following this link.

March 18: Harley-Davidson Virtual Gallery Talk

The Harley-Davidson Museum continues its virtual gallery talk series with a discussion on the history of the museum. The talk, titled “It’s in the Brick — How the Harley-Davidson Museum Came to Be,” will be led by the Harley-Davidson Museum’s business planning manager Joyce Koker. Explore how the Menomonee River Valley went from “Wisconsin’s Biggest Eyesore” to a redevelopment success story, and how the Harley-Davidson Museum played a part in this transformation. Tickets to the event are $6 and can be purchased here. The event will start at 7 p.m. and run until 7:45 p.m. A Q&A session will be held at the end.

March 19: MID COAST Virtual Fundraising Concert

MID COAST is holding its virtual concert this weekend. Previous shows have also served as fundraisers for local organizations like Planned Parenthood and Milwaukee Community Fridge. This month it will feature performances by Negative Positive, Justice, Duwayne Davis and Petti Hendrix. The featured organization is Maya Ophelia’s, a vegan friendly pop-up that hosts monthly pay-what-you-can food drives. The event will begin at 7 p.m. and can be streamed via Facebook, YouTube and Twitch.

Despite the melting snow, the Winter Farmers Market is still on. The market, which is celebrating its 12th season, takes place on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Greenhouse Annex at the Mitchell Park Domes (524 S. Layton Blvd.) until March 27th. The market will feature 30 vendors offering fresh local produce, baked goods, cheeses, handmade soaps and more. COVID-19 safety precautions and guidelines will be enforced, including a mandatory mask policy and restrictions on eating and drinking in the market.

March 20: Easter Egg Hunt and Crafts Benefit for Woof Gang Rescue

Dog City Hotel & Spa is teaming up with Milwaukee Paws Pet Care and Crafts to Memories for a family-friendly benefit that will assist the Woof Gang animal rescue. Kids will have the opportunity to decorate an Easter bag to collect eggs and crafts and take a photo with the Easter bunny. To participate in the egg hunt and crafts, an admission of $8 is required. An additional $10 will get a photo with the Easter bunny to take home. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and asks that all dogs be left at home for this event.

The Cudahy Family Library, 3500 Library Dr., Cudahy, is hosting a free craft and vendor fair sponsored by the Friends of Cudahy Library. Guests will have the opportunity to support local small businesses by browsing the various booths spread out in a socially distanced manner throughout the library. Those who stop by every booth will be entered in a free drawing for a $100 VISA gift card. Masks are required for this event, which will run from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

March 20: Saint Kate Virtual Artist Discussion

Saint Kate The Arts Hotel is hosting a virtual discussion with Milwaukee-based artist Maeve Jackson, whose installation “Hanging Out The Laundry” is currently on display at the hotel. Jackson’s work has been exhibited in Milwaukee and galleries around the country. The discussion will focus on her installation at St. Kate, which employs video and photography in its examination of this quotidian task. The event is free and attendees can register for it here.
