Supervisor Goodwin Calls on Legislature and Governor Evers to Enact Wisconsin Stimulus Package
Milwaukee – County Supervisor Russell Antonio Goodwin, Sr. is urging the Wisconsin State Legislature and Governor Tony Evers to pass and enact a Wisconsin stimulus package that would provide direct payments to families in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Wisconsinites have certainly suffered throughout this entire pandemic, with many individuals and families facing difficult challenges that vary from household to household and income to income,” said Supervisor Goodwin. “Governor Evers’ proposed budget included many good ideas, but it did not include direct aid to families. I am therefore urging the Wisconsin State Legislature and Governor to come together in a bipartisan fashion to create and pass a Wisconsin Stimulus Package.”
California and Maryland have each passed similar legislation. Supervisor Goodwin proposes that the Wisconsin Stimulus Package include direct payments of $200-400 per adult and dependent for Wisconsin residents who filed their 2019 or 2020 tax returns.
Under Supervisor Goodwin’s suggested proposal, households making below $75,000 would receive $400 per adult and $400 per dependent. Households making $75,001-$100,000 would receive $200 per adult and $200 per dependent.
“Many Wisconsinites’ backs are against the wall,” said Supervisor Goodwin. “Although Congress is expected to vote on a federal stimulus package this week, the direct aid to families included will not be sufficient to meet the needs of the ongoing emergency. A state package would be an economic boost to Wisconsin’s economy and is what many families need to avoid a catastrophe. Wisconsin can lead by example and show the nation how to put political differences aside and work together to pass legislation for the betterment of all. I am optimistic that Wisconsin Legislators and the Governor will forge a solution because we all know that we’re stronger together.”
Supervisor Goodwin encourages Wisconsin residents to contact their representatives and the Governor’s office to encourage adoption of a Wisconsin Stimulus Package.
