MADISON – Tonight, Governor Tony Evers delivered his 2021-23 Budget Address, outlining Wisconsin’s spending plan for the next biennium. Evers delivered his address virtually to a joint session of the Wisconsin State Legislature. Assembly Assistant Minority Leader, Representative Dianne Hesselbein (D-Middleton) provided the following response:

“In such a difficult time for our state, I share Governor Evers’ optimism for the future of Wisconsin. This year has been hard for so many people in our community and it is encouraging to have a budget proposal that reflects our values as we work to recover from this pandemic. Right now, families need hope as we begin to see the end of this nightmare with Wisconsin leading the nation in vaccine distribution. That is why we need the $200 million investment in small businesses this budget provides. I am encouraged to see needed infrastructure investments and economic development proposals.

“As we look to the future of our state, we can only move forward if we come together around common-sense issues that have the overwhelming majority of support from Wisconsinites. Fair maps, affordable healthcare, public school investments, and environmental protections are things we can agree on. Let’s deliver on these issues and many more through the state budget process so we can move forward together.”
