Supervisor Patricia Jursik Applauds Additional Block Grant Funds to Upgrade the Sheridan Park Pavilion During This Centennial Year
The Economic and Community Development (ECD) Committee of the Milwaukee County Board approved additional Block Grant Funds to upgrade the Pavilion in Sheridan Park.
The Economic and Community Development (ECD) Committee of the Milwaukee County Board approved additional Block Grant Funds to upgrade the Pavilion in Sheridan Park, Milwaukee County Supervisor Patricia Jursik announced today.
Previously ECD had earmarked $66,000 for repair of the roof. The additional funding, in the amount of $245,790, will upgrade the entire pavilion, including heating and HVA, plumbing, electrical and needed improvements. Sheridan Park is one of the oldest parks in the county system having been created in 1914 by the City of Cudahy under the leadership of Patrick Cudahy.
The entire community of Cudahy is celebrating the Centennial of this lakefront park and will dedicate the Fourth of July parade to the Centennial celebration of Sheridan Park, Jursik said. She added that because Sheridan Park is situated on the shores of Lake Michigan, it is used widely by the entire county. Repairing this shelter will bring in added revenue for the parks department as well, she said.
“The legacy of Sheridan Park and the preservation of our south shore lake shore corridor has been ‘the’ gift for generations to come,” Jursik said. “It is now time for the grandchildren and great-grandchildren of these early visionaries to reinvest in this community asset. The Centennial celebration is the perfect time to focus on this legacy. Our south shore parks will prove to be the impetus for renewed community development and recreation throughout the region. Much of Sheridan Park was built during the Great Depression using labor from the Civilian Conservation Corps, we must find the will to reinvest in these public treasures for the next generation.”
