After Three Separate Rulings, Governor Walker Reluctantly Calls Special Elections
"Today is a huge victory for voting rights and democracy."
MADISON – State Representative Jimmy Anderson released the following statement in response to Governor Walker reluctantly calling for special elections in the 1st Senate District and the 42nd Assembly District.
“Today is a huge victory for voting rights and democracy. After three different judges emphatically ruled that we must hold special elections, Governor Walker has finally relented. As the judge from Waukesha so eloquently put it, ‘Representative government and the election of our representatives are never ‘unnecessary,’ never a ‘waste of taxpayer resources’ and the calling of the special elections are, as the governor acknowledges, his ‘obligation.’
Rep. Anderson added, “We should never take anyone who argues that elections are a waste of money seriously. They’ve shown their true colors. These rulings are an important reminder that we cannot take our right to be represented and our access to the ballot for granted. We must vigilantly expand voter rights, overturn the discriminatory voter ID laws, and pass automatic voter registration in Wisconsin. Expanding these rights isn’t just keeping in line with the values of democracy, it is simply the moral thing to do. Any politician who is afraid of their voters getting the opportunity to exercise their right to express their opinions through elections does not deserve to serve in office.”

I have never seen a political party so openly flaunt their complete disregard for the LAW as well as for every person’s inherent right to vote as I have just seen with Career Politician Scott Walker and Wisconsin republicans. They have already gerrymandered the state, passed Big Government ID restrictions on voting and sold themselves and the state off to the highest corporate bidders but this latest attempt to steal people’s voting rights and defile the rule of the law is absolutely disgusting snd totally unacceptable. Walker and republicans are SHAMELESS and CORRUPT! I am so thankful for the wisdom of these judges as well as for the great work of the National Redistricting Foundation! Without them Career Politician Scott Walker and republicans would’ve assuredly been able to see to it that some 230,000 good people of Wisconsin (in republican districts no doubt) didn’t have any elected representatives for over a year! That is WRONG and it is AGAINST THE LAW WALKER! Now they can vote! Let’s hope they see through Walker and republican’s lies and schemes and join the rest of Wisconsin in…
Dumping Walker and ALL republicans in 2018!
Enjoy your tax-money-wasting extra elections, Democrats! Enjoy spending your already-depleted coffers fielding candidates… Enjoy a fired-up Republican base that can’t WAIT to get to the polls… enjoy your error-laden polling after we Republicans LIE, LIE, and LIE again when the pollsters call us (got another one yesterday evening, did you know I’m a YOUUUGGEEE Baldwin supporter, LOL!).
Thanks, Eric Holder. Ya’ll come back real soon now, you hear. Heck, you’ve shown up in Wisconsin more than Hillary did…
Read Bruce Murphy’s story that he just posted re: the lie about the wasted money. Not to mention those people deserve representation and Luther Olson said he was getting bombarded with calls from constituents demanding the special elections. So who do you really speak for WashCoRepub? Certainly Not the voters who live in those districts.
A Democrat just won an upset in a district that Trump easily won so it’s weird to see you talk about a fired-up Republican base. We’ll see. Recent history contradicts your claims.
@WashCoRepug, “As the judge from Waukesha so eloquently put it, ‘Representative government and the election of our representatives are never ‘unnecessary,’ never a ‘waste of taxpayer resources’ and the calling of the special elections are, as the governor acknowledges, his ‘obligation.”
Sorry YOU LOSE AGAIN! But hey at least thanks for admitting you are a liar, something we all knew all along. You can take some solace in knowing that those of us, (be they republican, democrat or any other affiliation) that actually value democracy and voting rights have stood up for your rights as well, despite your hostile partisan attacks on the law and voting rights. So hey, your welcome!
Dump Walker
The only truthful part of washco’s comment is when he admitted to being a liar.
It still amazes me that the MAGA crowd is totally okay with dismantling the pillars of democracy.
