Hit-and-run incidents show callous disregard for others
Statement of Alderman José G. Pérez June 6, 2017
In the last four days, there have been three hit-and-run incidents in the 12th District, two near S. 13th St. and W. Lincoln, and one near S. 18th and Lincoln. I would first like to express my concern for the wellbeing of the two motorcycle riders involved, as well as for the pedestrian. I am praying for a swift recovery for them from injuries, and I am very thankful the bikers’ injuries were not more severe.
It is troubling to see such callous and reckless disregard for others, joined by cowardice.
Residents should be aware that I am united with my Council colleagues in a hard push to have MPD employ more resources to assist our neighborhoods. That effort has been ongoing and will be turned up significantly as we head in to summer.
There is an increasing need for safer driving by Milwaukee residents. As of June 4, there have been 38 fatal crashes countywide in 2017 alone. It is imperative for drivers to be more cautious when behind the wheel, and it is also important for citizens to report reckless driving when they see it. Always remember to be cautious and aware of your surroundings not only when driving, but also when biking and walking across the street. Anyone with information on these recent hit-and-runs on Lincoln Ave. should come forward by calling the Milwaukee Police Department at 414-935-7360.
Thank you.
