Political Opportunist Kevin Nicholson Caught in His Lies
"Kevin Nicholson is a political opportunist that runs to catch the political winds."
MADISON – After reminiscing on his work at the Democratic National Committee on Vicki McKenna‘s radio show, and attempting to convey his conservative bonafides, Kevin Nicholson has embarked down a tortured road of lies. His claim, “I’ve told many people I left that role and that office at the convention that nominated Al Gore absolutely sure I was not a Democrat,” sounds nice, but as an Associated Press story detailed today, it’s just a lie.
Kevin Nicholson, since receiving the backing of an Illinois millionaire by way of a shady super PAC, has attempted to explain away his experience as a top DNC official by saying his time at the DNC is the reason he left the Democratic Party.
- January 7, 2017: “Back in the day, around 1999, I was elected National President of the College Democrats of America. So I actually moved to Washington, I worked at the DNC, I served on the DNC Exec committee, I spoke at the convention in 2000 that nominated Gore. And I’ve told many people I left that role and that office at the convention that nominated Al Gore absolutely sure I was not a Democrat. And I tell people there are a lot of reasons for that. I saw a lot of things up close.” [WIBA, Vicki McKenna Show, 1/7/2017]
- April 7, 2017: “Nicholson says his life and political views changed after college. He went into the Marines and is now a businessman. Nicholson rejects Acker-Lyons claim that he’s an opportunist. He said, ‘I tell people all across this state that my experience with the College Democrats, nearly 17 years ago – about two decades ago, is a big part of the reason I am a conservative today.’” [WDJT, 4/7/2017]
But, his multiple claims that “I left that role and that office at the convention… absolutely sure I was not a Democrat” or “17 years ago”, that doesn’t jive with his record.
- In 2005, four years after he left his role with the DNC, Nicholson registered as a Democrat in North Carolina. According to the North Carolina State Board of Elections, Nicholson registered to vote in Pender County, North Carolina on November 14, 2005. Nicholson’s party affiliation was recorded as “DEM.” [North Carolina Board of Elections, Accessed 3/30/2017]
“Nicholson told The Associated Press in an interview that his move from being a Democrat to a Republican was an evolution over time that began in 2000 and was complete by 2007 when he said he was ‘livid with the Democratic Party.'”
BUT, Nicholson voted three times while registered in North Carolina, including the 2008 Democratic Primary. According to the North Carolina State Board of Elections, Nicholson voted in-person in the general election on November 4, 2008. [North Carolina Board of Elections, Accessed 3/30/2017]
Nicholson claims he voted ‘no preference’ in the 2008 Democratic Primary, but given his record of lying this year, can anyone really believe him?
“Kevin Nicholson is a political opportunist that runs to catch the political winds,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Communications Director Brandon Weathersby. “He’s lied about his party affiliation at least three times this year. How many more politically opportunistic lies will Nicholson tell to try to get elected?”
