The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and the nationally respected, non-partisan, Public Policy Forum have both praised Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele’s 2013 Budget proposal.

Abele’s $1.3 billion budget improves Public Safety and adds money to Transit, Parks and Mental Health without raising taxes.

“This year’s executive budget may be the first to avoid widespread service cuts since a perfect storm of Pension Fund investment losses, stagnant state revenues, and irresponsible pension enhancements first ravaged the county’s finances a decade ago,” the Public Policy Forum finds. “Those actions are accomplished not with the use of budget gimmicks or rosy revenue projections, but through the establishment of clear spending priorities.”

“Abele’s proposed budget maintains a property tax freeze and has virtually no fee increases. That’s good news for families struggling in an economy that’s still on a slow rebound from the trough of the Great Recession,” the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Editorial Board writes. “Abele puts more money into parks and maintains transit spending at current levels, without any fare hikes or route cuts.”

The Milwaukee County Board is considering Abele’s budget.
